Good introductory book covering Qt/C++, QML, and Qt Creator.

I approached this book as someone who has used Qt, and Qt Creator before, but without any formal training, or even having read a book.I found this books approach refreshing as I expected to use the Qt Creator IDE to develop my application, so introducing how to use the IDE at the same time was helpful.Developing libraries was introduced almost from the begining, a concept not often covered in books, but something that is essential for anything larger than a trivial program. Knowing how, and how easy, it is to develop libraries using Qt encouraged me to modularise my application appropriately.Both the C++ and QML APIs are covered in the book, and both are introduced in parallel, encouraging the use of QML. One thing I was particularly pleased about was the description and worked example of how to integrate both APIs into the same application and have them call eachother.By using Qt Creator as the basis for introducing the Qt framework, it was possible to also cover using the IDE's debugging facilities. Seeing a worked example has encouraged me to use the built-in Valgrind.I really only have one criticism of this book. It doesn't delve in to the MVC concepts in any depth. After reading those pages I was still unable to create a simple table view.Application Development with Qt Creator is a good introduction to the Qt framework, and Qt Creator. It covers a wide variety of topics sufficiently to allow basic applications to be developed, but sufficiently deep that Qt can be used for more than trivial programs.

I was have pleasure to read that book, over Christmas time, so was able to read from start to end.If any one look for 'cheap' entry point in Qt programming, i believe is ok to buy and read.This book, is not 'for beginners' (you need to know some bits), but is acceptable is you will use internet to find blind spots in book :)

Good, with exceptions.

In many ways a very informative book, focused on the beginner. The second edition of "Application Development with QT creator" does not state explicitly on which release of QT the book was based, which is its greatest handicap. Otherwise it is ok, but not with enough depth for the inquisitive mind.
