In the beginning...

I was a little afraid to read this one, I knew it was about the accident the one that claimed Kacey’s parents, best friend and boyfriend and the way the author toyed with my emotions in the first book, I knew this was going to hit hard and I was not disappointed.This was a jarring read for me only because in this book we find out that the man that Kacey had fallen for was the same man who had a part in taking the lives of her loved one, Trent. At first, I wanted to choke the life out of him, for having the nerve to seek out Kacey, the woman’s life he had changed forever.But as the story goes on, you can’t help but sympathize with him as he reveals all that he went through and the guilt that surrounds him every day.I only have this to say, have plenty of tissue, because if you cried like me in the first one, you will most definitely be crying in this one.

I've read Ten Tiny Breaths, three times now and each time it hits my heart in new ways. To get Trent's story of events prior to Ten Tiny Breaths provided amazing insight into his actions.I couldn't decide if I should run away screaming at Trent's obsession with Kacey or just hug him. In all honesty I could completely understand where his fixation stemmed from. The desire to help the only other person to survive such a devastating accident - there is a kinship born from tragedy. For all intents and purposes its a twisted form of fate/destiny that has brought them together and they are perfect for each other.Having read Ten Tiny Breaths first, it is impossible to avoid comparing the outcome of that story with the method used to achieve it via In Her Wake. When two people are so obviously perfect for each other the end most certainly justifies the means.KA Tucker poignantly portrays the ripple effect of drunk driving within the narrative. The devastation for all concerned. I really liked how a tragedy for one person can be used to direct the positive outcome of others. A way of prevention in its sharpest form.The terror a parent feels at almost losing a child was a tangible emotion woven through the story. That fear is never far away, as a mother it was far too easy to empathize on this point.As predicted I had to re-read Ten Tiny Breaths as soon as I finished In Her Wake. The insight gained from Trent's point of view added even more emotion to the process, something I wouldn't have thought possible before reading In Her Wake. KA Tucker has solidified her place in my must-read authors list ♥

I like Trent even more now!

K.A. Tucker didn’t simply give us Ten Tiny Breaths from Trent’s point of view no we got something better. We got the story before the story. In Her Wake casts a whole new light on Trent. His actions in TTB may seem gallant and he took a very big risk embedding himself into Kacey’s life but what we didn’t know was the life Trent led before TTB. The accident that happened to Kacey, also happened to Trent. He didn’t walk away unscathed and his wounds were open for us to see in this novella.I really enjoyed this story. It was the side we didn’t know existed, and it made me feel for Trent more. He was wracked with guilt over his actions the night of the party and he was alone in the aftermath. His parents were supportive for only so long until their life began to crumble too.I am a true fan of K.A Tucker’s writing and In Her Wake does not disappoint, I found myself loving it more than I thought I would. New scenes that weren’t in TTB brought fresh meaning to the story, and although Trent’s behaviour could have been viewed as obsessive, his heart was in the right place. He wanted to right his wrong. I really liked the end where it all began to click into place, the preparation for TTB to begin. It’s really hard to imagine that In Her Wake was not written first. The transition was seamless and it worked perfectly.I’m really glad Trent’s story was told, if you are a fan of the series, In Her Wake is a must read. ~Ava*I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.*
