2Almost threw the book out of the window
By Frankie
Usually while reading I like to dive into the story and leave the world I'm living in, but some traits of this book really got me upset and made me continuously think about reality and especially about the author: how is it possible to write such a sad story?Life is hard, sometimes it is a nightmare but in the end it's up to us to stand up and react. This is what exactly the main character in this book is not doing. His selfishness, his passive attitude and the whole sad context where the story is told gave me a depressing feeling and drove me towards an annoyed reaction. The main character also completes his achievements with a masterpiece of selfishness that at the same time is in plain contrast with his whole experience (I can't go deeper into details here in order not to spoil the story). And also, the flow of the story is at least subtle with a great pathos growing in preparation of many key points - sometimes lasting a real lot of pages - and then such points reached in a flat and anonymous way, almost unnoticed. I don't know if this is a new writing style - it might be - but I'm not enthusiastic about it.One last detail: I bought this book because I always enjoy reading about places where I lived like Frankfurt in this case. I'd like to reassure those who haven't been there that the city is beautiful, clean, quiet and with wonderful spots like Sachsenhausen with its riverside an Friedberger Platz with its Friday market, just to cite the ones I remember with most pleasure. Why did I give this book all these stars (2)? Because it made me think, although about a very sad side of the mankind.
