5I could not stop reading this book
By Jaap G.
A very good book for people who want to read the story of Susan Atkins, For me it has answerd the question:"Why good girls are doing bad things".Also the procescutor, Vincent Bugliosi wrote a book about this case (named Helter Skelter). For me the book of Susan Atkins was much more interesting. She knew Charles Manson very well and I think she was (unfortunately to late!!) able to see through him. Very interesting for me was that to her opinion the murders were committed for a complete different reason than Bugliosi tells. For me the the explanation of Atkins seems more logical,Also in not so important details Atkins story is different from the one what is published before. For example; in the official files is written that Linda Kasabian drove the car the night of the killings, Atkins says Charles 'Tex' Watson did. Although this deatail is to my opinion not so important, it is interesting that Atkins has another vieuw on the case than what the files say.In the book Atkins tells also a lot about how she changed after she was arrested. To my opinion a very interesting book for people who are interested in 'Helter Skelter'.

4It was good to see what happened from the perspective of Susan ...
By Cyberpunk
It was good to see what happened from the perspective of Susan Atkins. I was interested to see how a person could get to the state she was in, participating in cold blooded murders. It really boiled down to Susan herself, and though Charlie Manson was an influence, he never forced anyone to do anything. From the beginning, one can see that Susan isn't crazy. In many ways she goes about her life as anyone else, and looks just like everyone else.... but there was something missing within this woman. She lacked natural affection inside of her, had zero compassion, and if there was a conscience it was just a tiny spark that didn't really show itself. She did things most people would feel guilty for without batting an eyelash, like sleeping with more men than she could count. Robbing people, and breaking into houses? Not even a twinge of guilt for that. In fact, when people would do her a nice turn, she wasn't grateful, but only seemed to see that they could do more for her. She had zero compassion for her father who she cut off contact with after her mother died, and later on when she was in the "family" with Charles Manson she didn't show even a bit of sadness to see someone she had thought of as a nice guy tortured and murdered for his money - and she participated in killing him by helping. Later in life after she was in prison she became a Christian and it seems her conversion was sincere.... however, at no time did Susan ever act tormented with grief over the atrocities she participated in, not even after she came to Jesus. She admitted she was wrong and seemed to want to lead a good life, but she didn't seem to cry for Sharon Tate or the other victims. There was just something missing within this woman, something cold and selfish that only God would be able to fix.

5Great Book
By Gothiclord
I was bought this in paperback for a birthday present, and loved reading it, so getting it on Kindle was a big bonus. For anyone interested in the Manson Family, this book is a must, Susan Atkins was one of the key members of "The Family", and to read an account from her point of view is great, especially as this goes beyond the murders and trial, and covers her life and how it's changed since the events
