Woodturning with Ray Allen

This is a wonderful book. It is probably the most useful book on woodturning and techniques that I've purchased. There are no assumptions made, and the reader is taken through the various stages of development, from initial thoughts to completion, with clear and easy to understand text and diagrams/photographs. I was able to create a number of segmented bowls using plans from the book and this gave me the confidence to create my own designs. Particularly helpful are the sections on creating the key focus area and the gallery is truly inspirational.

Homage to Ray Allen

This book is a homage to the work of Ray Allen by Dale Nish. The first quarter of the book details the construction of a sample bowl, the remainder of the book is a stunningly good collection of photographs of Ray's work.These were taken by Ray himself adding a rather poignant note.In the last chapter there is a description of how to construct the segmented patterns in Ray's designs, inspired by the Indian culture of the American southwest.Its not really a beginners book, lacking technical details but it is certainly inspirational.Beginners will find much more practical information in "The art of segmented turning" by Malcolm Tibbetts.However, I'd rate it essential reading for anyone, novice or master, who is interested in segmented turning.

This book tell's you everything you need to know, I have been woodworking for many years so I have all the machinery and tools required,so be aware of the machine's you will need, a good disc sander is a must, and a table saw or mitre saw
